As Uruguay is only a ferry ride away from Buenos Aires, we headed over to Montevideo for the weekend, taking advantage of the fact that changing the url of the ticket website to .uy instead of .ar, makes the tickets considerably cheaper. Despite having to claim we were of Uruguayan nationality, we had no problems at the border.
The city was quiet and peaceful – much less frenetic than Buenos Aires. So much so, in fact, that it was hard to believe it was actually a South American capital. But that was the best bit: its chilled out and laid-back feel.
It was great to be beside the sea, where we were treated to some spectacular sunsets.
