Vale do Pati is a magical place. Tucked away in the Chapada Diamantina national park in the state of Bahia, Brazil, it has a population of less than a 100 people and can only be accessed by foot or by mule.
We hiked for five days through the valley and it was definitely a highlight of my time in Brazil. Full of waterfalls, caves and breathtaking views, it is a place of stunning natural beauty. We stayed with locals who live in simple homes in the lush, green basin, where they grow all their food; they cooked us delicious traditional dishes – the perfect fuel for a full day of trekking. There is no phone signal or wifi, but being completely disconnected was surprisingly refreshing. Undisturbed by the din of the outside world, the days have no numbers – it’s as if time stands still in the valley.
