The island of Boipeba is complete and utter paradise. Located off the coast of Salvador, it is relatively inaccessible – requiring a ferry, then a bus and then a boat, but my word is it is worth the journey. This tiny island is gloriously unspoilt – with no cars, tractors are the only form of motorised transport. But Boipeba’s most seductive feature is undoubtedly its beaches. Wild, deserted and beautiful, these expanses of rippling sand are untouched by all but the turquoise water. The pace of life here is delightfully slow – lying in a hammock all day is perfectly acceptable.
